9 ways to make Mother's Day designs extra special - and profitable

mothers_day_header Thanks to its lack of rose thorns and holly spikes, Mother’s Day is probably the nicest peak, but it can still be a bore to churn out the same old pastel pink arrangements year after year. With flower prices ever on the rise and supermarkets upping their game, it’s on florists to set the bar higher with special designs. How’s that possible if everybody’s buying the same flowers? One way is with accessories! Set yourself apart from the chains and online retailers, and add special touches to increase mark-up and up those profits on every order. Personalise flowers with photo lockets What more would mum want on Mother’s Day, than a photo of her loved ones? These Rhinestone Charms might be our most effective product line when it comes to giving florists a serious edge, and at £3.50 they’re a steal and can be turned into keyrings afterwards, so why not promote them far and wide; and wire one into every design! 1_locket Little budgets: think inside the box And outside the handtied. Money can be tight for many young sons and daughters, so at Mother’s Day, you’ll find more customers looking for something seriously special but on a smaller budget. If you’re offering simple one or two stem sales, make sure they’re beautifully wrapped or carefully displayed in a gift box, so she’ll open it in the same way she would if it were a piece of jewellery. Add a special pin like our Stamen Cluster or Princess Brooches, and starting at just £1.50 they won’t break the bank but will make it a luxury gift she’ll remember. 2_little_budgets Make more from your spiral While handtieds will always be the big sellers, it’s not just stems you could be spiralling. Why not incorporate a Pearl Spray or Crystal Bunch as you twist to add a touch of excitement – and extra mark-up - to your regular Mother’s Day range. 3_spiral Put her name on it Experts say personalisation is still a key retail trend, as modern consumers continue to seek special products and veer away from the same mass market stuff they’ve become accustomed to. With our Glitter Letters or Monogram Letters you can write mum’s name on anything, from flowers to plants to packaging. 4_personalise Add metallic leaves to your foam arrangements “Metallics are and always will be a classic and the perfect addition to any colour palette”, so says Coco Wedding Venues, and we have to agree. Simply wire some into your Mother’s Day foam designs to add a special twist – she’ll love the Gleaming Leaves, our Diamond Ivy Leaf Spray will add a delicate sparkle, while our Lacey Leaves or Chic Leaves bring a more elegant touch. 5_leaves Go grey Not one for everybody, but something for the eccentrics. Grey is currently a huge colour trend, particularly in interiors (and even in hair!), so we’ve just added a grey option to our feather accessories which can be fixed or wired into all sorts of designs. If you're after more vibrant colours, check out the whole range of Flutters, Fluffy Feathers and Tweetie Feather Accents - perfect for adding an interesting new texture to florals. 6_grey_feathers There’s a world of things you can wire into handtieds Our products are all sourced with florists in mind, so it’s extremely easy to add wire to almost anything. Our Heart Wands are perfect for Mother's Day, our Butterflies and brand-new Glitter Butterflies arrive pre-wired, and our huge range of beautiful brooches come with a long, flexible pin for inserting or wiring anywhere. 7_wire_handtieds Ribbon with edge Whatever you do, make sure you stock up on the essentials, including pink ribbon. Don’t invest in loads of heavily branded Mother’s Day stock, because it’s tricky to get rid of ‘World’s Best Mum’ ribbon once the event is over, and it’s a pain to sit on it all year. Instead, our Baby Pink Double Faced Satin ribbon comes in a range of sizes, or opt for Beaded Lace to make it extra special. 8_ribbon Planning a flower crown workshop? Mother-daughter flower crown workshops are increasingly popular, but attempting to teach 20 non-florists the techniques of intricate wiring can be tricky. Make everybody’s life easier – and guarantee they’ll all leave smiling – by having them wire flowers onto one of our many headband, tiara or hair-piece options instead. 9_crowns
